The term “cow” refers to a female bovid that has produced a calf. Milk is the substance produced by cows, and by all female mammals. Through the industrialization of agriculture, humans with penises profit off the milk of perpetually pregnant cows. Milk has thus been coopted by its reproductive opposite. Through industrialized agriculture, animal bodies are abstracted into vessels or machines. Despite the attempts of men to control the products of reproduction, milk continues to be a constant reminder of our origins in, and dependence on, the female body.
